Purple Inspiration- Lila Laune

the trip to Paris brought not only back memories of former trips but a galore of new photos and lots of inspiration:

French Elegance as always,
pastel and romantic clothing on Japanese women
bold African patterns on beautiful African women
and more Saris than I ever expected in France.

Actually our hotel near the Gare du Nord/ North Station, a good location to explore many directions, was in a great Indian neighbourhood with a handful of good restaurants with reasonable prices.
I was lucky, I love Indian food.
So we could relax and chill after miles on foot and more in the underground that took us from one sight to another very secure but also very crowded.

Security had its different styles
one I haven't seen before so very close, wore a camouflage battledress and a machine gun - trios which patrolled the Louvre, the parcs, nearly all the sights.

I felt a bit strange to be confronted with loaded weapons
here in Germany we nearly never get to see the army, neither do they show their weapons to the public.

New problems lead to new habits..........

Now to the pieces of inspiration:

my netbook had to travel to Paris in a pillow case.

Today was high time to sew myself a decent laptop cover.

I saw one in the shops down the Louvre Carroussel made with neoprencovered wool checks- awesome, but too warm and 35€.

Okay, my IKEA tablets loaded with wip were the point of no return....

which tablet should I ransack?

Some blue and purple ninepatches and a leftover piece of thermolam later,

I had to choose the lining-

no chance to escape the sun spots in olive

and a 2,5" strip lilac for the straps

it was ready to snuggle my new toy.

Kannst Du selber machen, denkt man immer.

Last but not least

Never travel without yarn

I took with me a crochet hook 4mm /US6
and a skein of Noro Kureyon Sock in purple to crochet another one of these scarves

at the airport, on the plane, in the hotel, in the parc, in front of the fountain etc.

in the evening it will grow another Inch.......

I just changed it to a nice trip with hubby to Paris.

There we are- look at those fantastic views,

take a cuppa of whatever you want and sit down for a little handquilting while Mr Spock and Cpt. Kirk are moving through space and time.
lightyears away..........
Just before I went to France Lakehouse hydrangeas and teacups arrived with some basic
friends and made me cut them to panels for better use.
Some snibbles passed directly through to my sewing basket and were made into a small wallie which I quilted on a rainy sunday
only disturbed by one or another cat butt :)

yesterday I added some tiny mother-of pearl buttons and now it is time for binding with dark cadet blue

stay tuned, I will show photos of the fo!

"On va voire"- man wird sehen.

Travelling is fantastic if you aren't afraid of making some strange experiences.
Of this kind:

Sunday on the fair I worked up all my courage and applied for a booth and some classes in crochet for the Salon next year-
we'll see.......

that took some time...........
more than I expected so that a fast walk to the hotel where my luggage waited and a ferocious taxi driver got me to the station just in time to watch my train to Paris leaving the station on another platform...................

A very nice train conductor made it possible with two small but nevertheless important stamps that I could get on the next TGV to Paris, which came being thirty minutes behind schedule wearing the interval to my connecting train off to nothing more than thirty minutes.

I was still in good mood had I managed to make it through Paris in just about 25 minutes on thursday.

No, that would be too much good luck!

A metro before us had a breakdown
we had to leave the train under the Seine......

With two Aussies from Aidelaide on my coat-tails I made it to the other side of the Seine not without taking a photo of Notre Dame in the spring sunshine

besides that, don't think, you can ask for the way,
these are all tourists there!

My Thalys had actually left in the meantime.

In the RER we met a young Arab who afterwards guided us through the labyrinthic ways of Gare du Nord Station to the SNCF ticket counter where I had to change my ticket to Cologne.

I got a train and a seat for another 60€-

and waited in front of the departure board before the secret was disclosed on which platform my train would start.

Seated amidst a group of Lions Club members returning from a weekend in Paris I had a blast and eventually my hubby waited for me at Cologne station.

At home again!

Too much of adventures ....but you cannot leave the story in the middle, can you?

Now it is quite a nother pace again

finishing the doll quilts in my heap of wip and

French experiences will inspire me along the next creative paths to go.

Yesterday was meeting and chatting day.
I exchanged a lot of business cards and actually was recognized by a friend of Ravelry which ended up in three hours of German conversation and lots of giggles.

Take a look on those blogs of the creative girls I met
Sue Spargo
Cecile Franconie
great guys -great sources of inspiration

Before I am leaving Nantes today on high noon I just want to pop into the brilliant exhibition again to get some photos without gathering too much between the tempting booths in the basement.
You have to pass through to get to quilter's inspirational heaven........
I have to admit some books will have to follow me home........

pictures are coming soon, this internet connection drives me crazy, lets them break down if I am loading more than two pics- no patience for those "bêtises"

See ya!

Patchworkkurse-Taking Classes

Spannung!

Was soll ich sagen...................

Yesterday I had booked two classes

I was not sure what to expect

applique was quite an unknown landscape

it is not more

I had so much fun

Janet Bolton is such a lovely lady with great ways to encourage your creativiy

and Sue Spargo caught me with another bug -woolfelt applique

one of Sue's adorable works in progress:
aren't they lovely, those birdies?

Sue's crew: daughter, friend and sister
lots to laugh and knitting knowhow to share:)

Sue Spargo's Beehive

Now to the breakfast table and then

and in the afternoon time for a town trip

Endlich da- finally here

- Wifi gebastelt , kurz e-mails abgeholt, etwas Fernsehen geguckt zwecks Vokabular

what an adventure

I had to change my flight to Nantes to a train trip- thanks Eyja...jökull

in short what I had yesterday:

last parking space in the station parking lot

nearly missed the ICE to Cologne, first train was late, I had to run

had to fetch my Thalys ticket outside Cologne station where lots of police waited for a demonstration of students and pupils

oh, no sitting reservation? okay, Iwas lucky, I got a seat

Paris Nord to Paris Montparnasse by metro in 45 minutes-a lot to walk with luggage

finally in the TGV to Nantes- time for a nap

Nantes, where is the tourist information? not at the station- at the chateau, f...

looking for the hotel I stumbled over Ladroguerie in the old town- two skeins of lovely summery yarns followed me (I had finished my scarves in train, well done, deserved a gratification, mind you?)

I never left my bed last evening
I collapsed there to have a short look on my e-mails
another short glimpse on French TVprogrammes

and was lucky enough to have brought with me those ear things
it was a little bit noisy outside

today classes with Janet Bolton and Sue Spargo are on the agenda

taking pictures wherever I can

A bientot!

please! for all those who stranded or got stopped on their aerial ways

we need some wind and heavy rains,

sounds just crazy to put this on my wishlist, I know,

but actually I booked a flight to Nantes recently to take a class with Sarah and Janet Bolton to get some quilty input for the Dollie classes to come.

Now we will all just drink tea and wait

and will be left to hope for very bad weather;)

Eventually I will get on with my Dollies Online project for March

being a little bit behind all but nevertheless motivated to add something as pretty as this to a wall

when finished so far.

I am at putting together the strips actually and blogging with my brandnew toy

Heavy rains and wind

on a sunny day-

life is an adventure and never boring!

bunnies and fairies- Elfen und Osterhasen

Once upon a time a very pinkish charm pack was sitting on my work table

it met with some Japanese bunnies in my stash

and halfsquares were born

then a pretty collection of Marcus Brother fabrics were delivered to the shop last week
Porcelina: light grey paisleys, pastel dots and a bold check

two snippets with pink Michael Miller fairies toile could easily blend with them

and said:

quilt

quite a time ago my last blog entry

but you know

there is always something exciting in meeting a deadline

and everything has to wait

sewing for a vendor's booth at the H&H in Cologne made me busy as a bee after store hours and the weekend along

ideas were buzzing in my head for weeks

yummy fabric cuts were piling

but there has to be less time

you understand

time pressure is what makes creative juices flow

so now you can see the output of a week or so

Meadowsweet by Sandi Henderson for Michael Miller:
Baby combo and 60s apron

handquilted linen pillow
made of Poppy by Laura Gunn for Michael Miller

owls for girls and owls for livingroom sofas
feat.Gray, Citron and Black by Michael Miller

and last but not least a baby boy quilt with owls watching over you
