Sand, Sea and Sun - Im Sand am Strand

Sun is shining as we make little breaks on our trips to the beaches in the wind shadow of the now open beach chairs.
The spa promenade of Wyk is being renovated and will be all new in summer.
Construction noises and bulldozers making the beach ready for more beach chairs and more sunbathing tourists are eye candy for little builders who could spend their days
watching the bulldozers to distribute the sand evenly and unsilt the two piers at the main beach which were nearly buried by this winter's storms shifting the sands.
Inspiration for me are the clear colours of the beach chairs.
Yellow, blue, green ,a lot of white and not to forget the colours of dry and wet sand, lovely neutrals which make the others even more interesting.
Have a sunny beginning of May!
Here it is a bank holiday and a lot of visitors will come and spend the weekend on the island.

Purple and friends- Die Farbe Lila

give it a try, a last one, my grandma used to say.

What a dramatic colour dark purple is. Love or hate it!

Where as light purple or lilac is one of the most flattering colours , easily minimizing age and the signs of - thus a fave with old ladies.

For me there is barely another colour worse to take a decent shot.
This colour does not want to be banned on media. My quiltalong quilt had to suffer a lot of takes, now it is sleeping in the "brood room" under the roof and a good quilting idea will come - sooner or later!

I am a from the gut- kind of photographer, neither shutterbug nor pro, I shoot instinctively and delete what does not fit in my wish list.
Hail to the digital camera!

After a trip to Breckerfeld, the next nearby possibilty in our neighbourhood for winter sports to pick up my youngest daughter from a pajama party we both made a detour to the open air museum for handicrafts in Hagen.
The Mäckingerbach valley in its first green, chirping birds from all trees, a soft breeze and beautifully displayed timber framed houses where antique handicrafts were shown...........
and a visit to the indigo dye works were just the right amount of cultural input.

Pure inspiration for a blue creative phase after all these clourful splashes...

At home I got on the hunt for purple leaves and friends and this is what I found in our handful of backyard.

Have a good and refreshing weekend!
Next time I post from the seaside of life.

THE quilt is eventually sent away to Eindhoven, NL, where it will be displayed with a NO.98. My first entry in an International judged quilt show, scary.....
I wonder how it will look hung high from afar.
I have to wait until next weekend.
Time will fly as we are going on a trip to Foehr to feel the wind and let the soul rest before the next storm comes.
The last weeks were not only busy but stressfull in many ways.
Juggling family, shop and my many other activities consumed my whole concentration and strength ...........I have to recharge my batteries.

My Dear Jane blocks are different this week. I could not get convinced that paperpiecing would be fine, so I chose from the many blocks some which were easy and fun. If they seem to be a bit wonky ........this week was wonky too.

On my working table, the quiltalong quilt is getting its last border so I can start the next one when I am at home again with its pretty star theme all in patriotic blue red and white.
I will post more pictures of the purple and taupe one soon.

Sun actually- Endlich Sonne

Finally it's getting sunny and warm.
Our garden bench has got a new place in the front yard and one of the cats started to conquer it at once with a great view on all the buzzing creatures around.
Yesterday after a late lunch we packed all our books and hoop and quilting gear and spend the afternoon on the terrace in the sun.
Reading, sunbathing, handquilting, stretching and yawning(cats).
So deep was the craving for some sunlight and warmth after this long and grey period of late winter.

Our youngest one let me take a picture of her new big sunglasses and snuggled under my handquilting wip which will reach the finish line today with binding, label and
hanging sleeve to get shipped tommorrow.
Meeting deadlines can be fun too!

This spring never comes...... but Mother Nature decides and sprouts.
The crabapple tree will surely blossom this weekend.
The late narzissus keep up in order to meet with blue hyazinths -big ones and grape ones to swing in the spring breeze.
The herbs start to green and the chives is the fastest to grow that's why it is the first in the frying pan as good company for scrambled eggs and white mushrooms.

I could easily go on for two more pages
but that's not really me.

Don't get me wrong I love to write but not that lovely lifestyle bla.

Sweet and small are attributes until the age of three, then one is beginning to show
rough edges and conflicts are imminent.
Is called the terrible twos, with boys too, but they are not meant to stay sweet and cute.

Today is my philosophical day.

I finish projects to fill these times when I have to wait for reactions.

I have no problems to start something new, my head is brimming with ideas and projects.

There is always enough time- a question of arrangement, of priorities.

Caring for toddlers is a pretty training to prioritize.

When our nidicolous ones on two feet get fully fledged, priorities often change in sequence or have to be newly defined.

Somehow you have to invent your own self new.

It is nearly as awful as puberty.

What can I do,
what do I want to,
where will I be in five years?

My six word meme:

There will be an open door.

A glimpse - ein kurzer Blick

Ja!

It's all about pink this week!
Amanda Jean who started another four delicious looking projects mentioned that she is fond of pink.
Yes I agree, this is definitely one of the colours I loved to work with too in 2007 and this year's projects look pink and (lime-)green either.

Pink -
strong, essentially girlie, positive, optimistic, feminine

Think Pink!

Splashes of colour- Farbspritzer

Yesterday as I visited some of my favourite blogs I came along this colourful splashy quilty goodness. Oh my gosh, isn't it pretty! and inspiring!

Think I have to rummage through my stash even if some things like this baby quilt made with Jane's Hothouse Garden Lotus in pink are still on my to-do list, it tickles my fingers, you know?

Colourful and luxurious yarns are what I was looking for a long time now. Now I found a company who does not only offer the right colours but a concept of ethic trade!
I already made swatches of the Hummingbird 4 ply in col.Kingfisher. It is lovely to knit and so soft and light. But I know fast projects need even thicker needles and dk weight which is perfect for sweaters and wraps which could be worn all year.
I will start to offer three Hummingbird dk colours, Kingfisher,Lourie and Woodpecker. Other colours too if you make a wish.

Last but not least a little splash of red!
Tina Givens' red Georgina and Zazu fabrics begged on friday to be made into a quilt, I followed....
D9patches made it possible to whip up a project in no time and to get all the dark browns and reds which were already in stock displayed at once.
Borders are still missing. Let's do some hatching first.............

The skeins of variegated yarn in red, salmon, orange and offwhite are Araucania Pomaire ones and will be made into a cotton version of my spring cardi

Also ans Wolle wickeln.....

Trade show news- Messeneuheiten

What a weekend!
After a knitnite on friday and a birthday party just before the crack of dawn I got early on the train to Cologne to attend the most important annual trade show for crafts in Germany.
You could watch the booths and how the creative people, traders and visitors were embellished by their own creations or not:)
I did not wear a quilted garment but my granny square scarf which was the most colourful garment on me because I was all in elegant grey. :)Business!
After a short visit to the Oakshott booth where they beautifully displayed the new more colourful range of new solids and a chat with lovely Deliah I went straight to the booth of Kokka where I enjoyed the fresh designs of Heather Ross's Rabbits and Racecars collection and the great Nani Iro fabrics.
I was very lucky to meet my neighbour shop owner Birgit there.
Now you know where to get the other rabbit fabrics:)
At Clover's they had a very friendly Japanese girl, hi Yasuko! to help them with the customers. We had so much fun and laughed a lot. I came home with mini pompoms made with raffia and the colourful effect yarn which Clover sells in Japan for my daughters.
And I hope that not only the mini pomponmaker are available soon but the gorgeous Aquamode knitting needles as well. I am still working on this topic!

Mal sehen was sich ergibt........................

You can easily imagine that it was not only fun but work too, because I had a meeting with a BIG company where I applied for a job. We'll see, time will tell..... keep fingers crossed!

I was really lucky to meet the designers Jane Ellison and Louisa Harding on sunday at Designer Yarns and the Chilean mother and daughter team of Araucania which are so lovely and nice people. great yarnies!

Inspired by their great work and another wonderful British yarn company too my shop will have a new category in which fair or ethic traded yarns will find their place.

All things considered it was a great weekend even if I had aching limbs and blisters. I had two yummy dinners with my little brother who was my host during my days in Cologne.
I am so jealous of his small appartment just ten minutes away from the trade center and within 20 minutes walking distance of the mighty dome.
Cologne is well worth a trip on which Joyce Robertson from Westminster Fibers would surely agree.( met her and John Laurie too)

The colourful skeins in the photo above are from at least four visits at Posh yarns UK on sunday evenings at 7 p.m.
Did I mention that it is very difficult to get even one skein of these luxurious cashmere and merino or silk blends? All sold within 15 minutes!
That's what I dream of!
But with over 1500 items in my shop for sale it is an illusion!

growing- wachsen

These fickle little blocks really make my day .
I have to meet new challenges, but if I do not succeed, I will not resign, but let the block rest in peace for some leftover project.
So far no block made it into the scrap basket but in a pumpkin orange ring binder with sheet protectors for every row.

Chris's Soccer Field was yesterday's block. After my practising paperpiecing block it went much smoother.

Today I enjoyed a bit of applique and finished B1-Bachelor Buttons.
I am so glad I voted for contemporary fabrics. So fun to see Heather's Freshcut charms turn into repros of these antique little blocks!

To see more blocks and fabric choices visit the Dear Baby Jane flickr-group.
A big THANK YOU to Anina for her good job!

Progress- Fortschritt

Sometimes one has to wait a long time to see any progress.
Then developments are piling up.
She riddles again, you will think, no, but I love secrets and cannot let the cat out of the bag at once.
Good things need slow cooking.

But here's a sneak peek on another quilted section of my wip.

Today as I was browsing my blogroll and got to the "Angry Chicken" I made an encounter with some slightly weird, but very amusing musicians.
Listen to a little French lesson from some Kiwis stranded in Big Apple.
Lend your ears to their other songs as well, I dare not to post them but their "Ring song" made me roll on the floor laughing and I am a great LOTR fan.

Our sleeping beauty is male and furry. Look, whom I have to stir up when I have to carry on handquilting on my wip.
Isn't he cute? It's his favourite spot to take a nap and you hear him spit when the black one wants to join him. Males do not like to share............

Update on Dear Baby Jane:
A lesson in paperpiecing before I go on to B4 Chris's Soccer Field.
I did not knot my fingers but it's not my favourite technique and I really hate to rip the paper leftovers. Eek!
