201

Those were busy days and they will continue............. new projects, deadlines, realtors, business dates........sorry no time left for blogging.
Just a few minutes left to make some worktable scraps into a scrappy log cabin.
No knitting, no sewing, scrolling down sites with premises in a distance up to 20 km from my hometown. The shop I thought was perfect is not .....
and the opening date will be delayed.
I simply believe there will be an open door.
So please keep your fingers crossed!

I nearly forgot to celebrate my two years of blogging and my 200. blogpost which I wrote on 08/18/08.
Time for a good luck fairy -one of my daughters- to choose one of you commenters to this post with a piece of advice what you think is indispensable for an excellent fabric and yarn shop.
The winner/s will be chosen end of next week in time for my next blog post- the 202th.
I will stuff a big envelope with luscious strips from my working table.
Good luck my friends!

I like it when there are plenty of shop-samples :-) Lots of inspiring quilts to look at. They don,t have to be large, just enough to give you an idea....
I like "one-stop" stores, meaning they have everything I need for a project, or if they don't have it, they can get it for me.
I like classes and work-shops, I like being able to bring my wip's to the store to get advice on sashing/borders etc...

Good luck to you too. I love a shop with friendly knowledgeable people who aren't intimidating. I want my shop to feel like an extension of my studio. I want to feel at home there.

I think a good shop needs to have something for everyone...our local quilt shop is set in its ways and as a result never seems to change...I like to walk in and have something new draw me in...whether it be a new pattern or different fabrics.

ok, my ideas
1. my kind of fabrics or some I would never buy, but you convince me to use those, your advice would lead me to new roads
2. atmosphere, I should feel at home, maybe a big table where you just could sit, explore patterns, magazines and books and maybe have a cup of coffee or tea around a quilting bee
3. eventually classes, I'm always trilled by new things, I even would pay more for special classes hold by foreign guests
4. displayed quilts, also from the custumers
5. always have the impression that the owner would do anything to get me what I ask for

hmm, that might be all for the moment

wish you luck for your new search

For me there must be a friendly staff who are willing to help with questions. Of course the best part of any shop are the samples the more pretty things to look at the more I want to buy :)

Oh the log cabins are so nice, even with scraps they look fabulous!

I'd love to be entered in the drawing. I have to agree with some others that I like a shop that is friendly and open to having you bring in a work in progress and get ideas for finishing the project even if the original fabrics were not bought there. I never like shops that don't speak to you when you come in and turn away when they don't have the fabric you are working with because I'm usually there to BUY MORE!
Another tip is good samples and also kits. Sometimes it great to see something made up and buy the kit in different colors or choices

I am thinking of you often, Christiane! You are doing what i would love to do, too. I'm sure it will go well - you have such talent and drive.

I forgot my tip! Definitely the most important thing for any quilt shop is an atmosphere that allows people to linger - all day if they want to - and makes them feel that the shop is their own personal sewing space.

Hallo Christiane,

I like a shop that is organised into different sections of fabric and themes, otherwise I get too confused! I also like friendly staff who are happy to give some advice.
Congratulations on 200 posts and thanks for your tip on my flickr page!

LG, Gabriele

Just discovered your blog and your work with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Wow. Just stunning. I have been quilting for about a year now and am slowly collecting fabrics. I like a quilt shop with friendly staff, but most of all I like to find little projects on sale. That really makes it special.
